这个……怎么说呢
do you的那个do是助动词，are you的are是实意动词。
你应该从整句句子上来理解，而不是把词单独挑出来理解。
比如说who are you和what are you doing中的两个are you翻译出来的意思就不一样了。以此类推。

D:Apparently,he got in a fight at a bar.

D:I agree with you. He's usually so calm.
S:Maybe he was just trying to be a good samaritan
D:That's possible. I can't picture him trying to start a fight with someone
