“牛市”与“熊市”

在股票市场，“牛市”（bull market）是上涨的行情，“熊市”（bear market）是下跌的行情。stockbroker是指股票投资者。sell the bear´s skin before he had caught the bear指卖空（buy short），在俚语中，sell a bear也同样指卖空。另外，在股市以外，牛和熊也有含义：英国人自称为“约翰牛”（John Bull），美国男篮也有大名鼎鼎的“芝加哥公牛队”（Chicago Bulls），bull指“粗壮的人，卤莽得人，凶猛的人”，a bull in a china shop指“说话或行动卤莽的人，笨手笨脚动辄闯祸的人”，shoot the bull指“吹牛皮”，a bear for hard work指“能吃苦耐劳的人”。
