1 〔…くらい,…の程度〕
お銚子（ちょうし）1本ほどの酒ですっかり酔ってしまった I got drunk on just one bottle of sake.
弟は父ほどの背丈はない My brother is not as tall as my father.
それほど高くない It's not ｢that [so] expensive.
彼は年ほどには見えない He does not look his age.
床はまぶしいほどに磨かれていた The floor had been polished so well that it was almost dazzling.
彼はほとんど天井に手が届くほど大きい He is almost tall enough to reach the ceiling.
信じられないほどの好条件だ The offer is too good to be true. / It's an unbelievably good offer.

3 〔おおよその場所〕
町の中ほどにお寺がある There is a temple in the center of (the) town.
4 〔｢…すればするほど｣の形で,程度の進行を表して〕
行けば行くほど道は狭くなった The farther we went, the narrower the path became.
見れば見るほどいやになった The more I looked at it, the less I liked it.
早ければ早いほどいい The sooner the better.
5 〔｢…ほど…はない｣の形で,強調を表して〕
