寒の戻りのなかで、プロ野球のパ・リーグがきのう幕を開けた。いよいよ球春である。雨と寒さを心配していたら、３試合ともドーム球場だった。これならファンは前夜、ぐっすり眠れただろう。
乍暖寒之际，昨天，职业棒球太平洋联盟拉开了战幕。棒球之春终于来临。也曾担心过是否会下雨或太冷，结果3场比赛都是在室内进行的。如此安排，球迷们前天晚上肯定也是高枕无忧的吧。
春先の冷え込みを余寒という。対になる語は残暑だが、昔は「余熱」とも言った。その言葉を中国では、年配者がもう一（ひと）頑張りする意味でも使うそうだ。「余熱を発揮する」と言えば、冷めない情熱を世の役に立てることだという。
初春的寒冷叫作余寒。与此相对应的是残暑，以前也称作“余热”。据说，此话在中国也用以表示老年人再次发奋的含义。称作“发挥余热”，即：让尚未冷却的热情给社会作贡献。
この人たちの挑戦を余熱と言っては失礼か。海の向こうの大リーグで、日本の熟年選手が夢を追っている。「失うものはないから」と言う桑田真澄投手。邦人大リーガーの道をひらいた野茂英雄投手。華やかな実績に彩られつつ、過去への安住を拒む。ともに今年、４０歳を迎える。
要说这些人的拼搏为“余热”恐怕有些失礼。说的是日本的大龄选手，在大洋彼岸的锦标赛上追逐着自己的梦想。坦言“没什么可失去的”的桑田真澄投手。国人进入美国棒球大联盟的开路先锋——野茂英雄。虽然早已战果辉煌，可都不愿吃老本。两人今年都已年届40了。
めざす「開幕１軍」は容易ではない。息子のような若手もまじっての、チーム内の生き残り競争だ。傷んだ体を治療し、つらいリハビリに耐えて、夢に迫る。「野球をするのが好き」という、少年のような野茂投手の言葉がいい。
要列入“开赛首阵阵容”决非易事。为了不被淘汰，就得和儿子般年轻的队员们竞争。治好受伤的身体，忍受痛苦的康复训练，追求自己的梦想。“我喜欢打棒球”，野茂投手孩子般朴实的话语令我感动。
人生の達人だった臨床心理学者の河合隼雄さんが、「年齢を括弧（かっこ）に入れる」ことを勧めていた。「年齢を忘れる」のとは違う。年齢は自覚しつつ、それはそれとして何かに挑む。しゃかりきになるより豊かで味わい深い、と。
人生达人临床心理学家河合隼雄（1928-2007）曾劝人“将年龄放入括弧之内”。这与“忘掉年龄”是不同的。留意自己的年龄，然而不放弃挑战。他说，这比一时冲动更充实、趣味更浓。
年度のあらたまる季節、余熱を生かす計画をお持ちの方もおられよう。仕事や趣味、あるいは奉仕。それぞれに心弾むデビューであればいい。熟年投手のチャレンジ精神に励まされながら、齢（よわい）は括弧に入れて。
在这个年度更替（注：指国际财政年度，4月起为新年度）的季节，大概有人已制订好了发挥余热的计划了吧。是工作？是兴趣？还是公益活动？无论是哪方面的，只要是激动人心的成名计划就行。在大龄投手拼搏精神的激励下，再将年龄存入括弧之内。

Amid the return of winter chills, the Pacific League kicked off the 2008 pro baseball season on Thursday. For baseball fans, spring is here.
I was worried about the rain and the cold, but all three opening games were held in domed stadiums. Fans must have been able to sleep well the night before.
Early spring chills are called yokan, which literally translates as "residual cold." This is paired with zansho in autumn, meaning "lingering summer heat." In the olden days, people also used the word yonetsu (residual heat).
In China, its equivalent of yonetsu is said to be used in the context of an elderly person taking on one more challenge in the twilight of his or her life. To "exercise yonetsu" means to contribute to the betterment of society by putting one's unfaded ardor to good use.
In the U.S. major leagues across the Pacific, Japanese pitchers who are well past their prime are continuing to pursue their dreams. The word yonetsu comes to mind, even though I realize it may be a bit rude of me to apply it to what they are doing.
"I have nothing more to lose," said Masumi Kuwata. And there's Hideo Nomo, who blazed the trail for Japanese ballplayers aspiring to join the major leagues.
Both turn 40 this year. They have had great careers in Japan, but refused to rest on their laurels.
It will be anything but easy for Kuwata or Nomo to make it to the starting lineup for the opening series. To keep their dreams alive, both must survive cutthroat competition against younger teammates who could almost be their sons, overcome their injuries, and undergo grueling rehab sessions.
I love Nomo's boylike words: "I like playing baseball."
Hayao Kawai (1928-2007), a clinical psychologist who was a master in the art of living, used to recommend that one should "put one's age in brackets." This is different from forgetting one's age, Kawai explained. Rather, one should be fully aware of one's age, but be ready at the same time to challenge something anew. This way, he said, life can be richer and more rewarding than if one tried to always be an overachiever.
The new fiscal year begins April 1, and I assume some people are planning to start "exercising" their yonetsu.
Whether it's for work or hobby or volunteer activity, what matters most is that it fills one with happy excitement--while putting his or her age in brackets and drawing inspiration and encouragement from the two veteran pitchers' spirit of challenge.
