子曰、「學而時習之、不亦説乎、有朋自遠方来、不亦楽乎、人不知而不慍、不亦君子乎。」
子曰く、「学びて時にこれを習う、 亦たよろこ説ばしからずや。
朋あり、遠方より来たる、亦楽しからずや。
人知らずしてうら慍みず、亦君子ならずや。」
The Master "Is it not pleasant to learn with a constant perseverance and application?
"Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters?
"Is he not a man of complete virtue, who feels no discomposure though men may take no note of him?"
perseverance-忍耐
discomposure-心の動揺，不安，ろうばい，当惑.
学…先生や書物から新しいことを学ぶ。
時…いつもいつも。「時々」ではない。
習…復習する。
有子曰、「其爲人也、孝弟而好犯上者、鮮矣、不好犯上而好作乱者、未之有也、君子務本、本立而道生、孝弟也者、其爲仁之本與、 」
有子曰く、
「其の人と為りや、
孝弟にしてかみ上を犯すことを好む者はすく鮮なし。
上を犯すことを好まずしてして
乱をな作すことを好む者は、未だこれ有らざるなり。
君子はもと本を務む。
本もと立ちて道生ず。孝弟なる者は其れ仁の本たるか。 」
The philosopher Yu said, "They are few who, being filial and fraternal, are fond of offending against their superiors. There have been none, who, not liking to offend against their superiors, have been fond of stirring up confusion.
"The superior man bends his attention to what is radical. That being established, all practical courses naturally grow up. Filial piety and fraternal submission,-are they not the root of all benevolent actions?"
filial duty 子としての義務, 孝行, 孝養.
filial piety -孝心, 孝行.
fraternal - 兄弟の
stir up-起こさせる
benevolent-情け深い
submission-従順

弟…悌順。
孝…子供の、親を大切にする気持ち。
弟…悌。兄弟を大切に思う気持ち。
君子…立派な人間。人格者。
仁…思いやりの気持ち。
子曰、「巧言令色、鮮矣仁、」
子曰く、「巧言令色、鮮なし仁。 」
The Master said, "Fine words and an insinuating appearance are seldom associated with true virtue."
insinuate-遠回しに言う，ほのめかす，当てこする
◇ 好言…聞こえの良い言葉。
令色…こび諂う顔つき。 ☆色…顔色、女色、など様々な意味がある。
曾子曰、「吾日三省吾身、爲人侄液酢⑴c朋友交言而不信乎、傳不習乎」
曾子曰く、
「吾れ日に三たび吾が身を省みる。
人の為に证辘浦窑胜椁钉毪
朋友と交わりて信ならざるか、
習わざるを伝うるか。」
The philosopher Tsang said, "I daily examine myself on three points:-whether, in transacting business for others, I may have been not faithful;-whether, in intercourse with friends, I may have been not sincere;-whether I may have not mastered and practiced the instructions of my teacher."
三省…「三つのことを復習する」と取る説と、 「三回、反省する」という説と、「何度も反省する」という説。
子曰、「道千乘之國、敬事而信、節用而愛人、使民以時、」
子曰く、
「千仱喂虻坤婴恕
事を敬して信、
用を節して人を愛し、
民を使うに時を以てす。 」
The Master said, "To rule a country of a thousand chariots, there must be reverent attention to business, and sincerity; economy in expenditure, and love for men; and the employment of the people at the proper seasons."
chariot- (古代ギリシャ･ローマの)二輪戦車，チャリオット 《戦争･凱旋･競走などに用いた馬車で，御者は立ったまま》
reverent--敬虔(けいけん)な
expenditure--支出，経費
敬…つつしむ。
用…費用。
時…時季。
子曰、「弟子入則孝、出則弟、謹而信、汎愛卸H仁、行有餘力、則以學文、」
子曰く、
「ていし弟子、
入りては則ち孝、
出でては則ち弟、
謹みて信あり、
ひろ汎く肖驉郅筏芢
仁に親しみ、
行いて余力あれば、
則ち以て文を学ぶ。」
The Master said, "A youth, when at home, should be filial, and, abroad, respectful to his elders. He should be earnest and truthful. He should overflow in love to all, and cultivate the friendship of the good. When he has time and opportunity, after the performance of these things, he should employ them in polite studies."
polite - 礼儀正しい( polite は相手の気持ちを思いやり，礼儀をわきまえている気持ちを表わす)
文…書物。
◇ 弟子（でし・ていし）… 「でし」＝孔子の門下生に対し、「きみたちは」と呼びかけたと解す。 「ていし」＝一般的に、「人の子供としては」と解す。
文…文章。経典。 ☆文・文章には、「きらびやか」という意味もある。 |
