祖母、母、そして自分。東京に暮らした女三代の「デパート観」を、早世した劇作家の如月(きさらぎ)小春さんが書き残している。明治末生まれの祖母は、あらたまった買い物は「日本橋の高島屋か三越」と決めてゆずらなかったそうだ▼
Koharu Kisaragi (1956-2000), a playwright who died young, wrote about what shopping at a department store meant for different generations of Tokyo women: her grandmother, her mother and herself.
For her grandmother, who was born in the late Meiji Era (1868-1912), a trip to a department store was a special occasion. She would go only to the Takashimaya or Mitsukoshi department stores in Tokyo's Nihonbashi district.
祖母、母亲、和自己。早世的剧作家如月小春女士在遗著中描写了生活于东京的三代女人的“商场观”。明治末年出生的祖母,据说正式购物非“日本桥的高岛屋或三越”莫属。
昭和ヒトケタ世代のご母堂はもっぱら新宿の伊勢丹。老舗に対抗する新興勢力の花形だった。そして自身は池袋の西武をひいきにした。「おいしい生活」などの宣伝コピーが1980年代の流行語になり、存在感は他を抜いていた。如月さんと同世代の筆者も、当時の華やかさは印象に深い▼
Kisaragi's mother, who was born during the first decade of the Showa Era (1926-1989), preferred the Isetan department store in Shinjuku. Isetan was a newcomer that dazzled customers less interested than the older generation in the establishment's history or tradition.
Kisaragi herself was a fan of Seibu department store in Ikebukuro. With its ad copy "Oishii Seikatsu" (Delicious life), which became household words in the 1980s, the store had an unrivaled presence in the industry. As a contemporary of Kisaragi, I myself remember being taken by the glamour associated with the store back then.
昭和头十年那一代的母亲大人则钟情于新宿的伊势丹。它是与老店抗衡的新兴势力的佼佼者。而自身则偏爱池袋的西武。“おいしい生活”(美味的生活)等宣传词成了1980年代的流行语,独领风骚。笔者与如月是同一代人,对当时的辉煌也印象很深。
その絶頂期にオープンした有楽町西武がきのう、クリスマスの夜に店じまいした。昼間の人、人、人は往年のセールを彷彿(ほうふつ)させた。だが、どれだけ賑(にぎ)わっても明日はない。燃え尽きるろうそくは、炎がきらめくほど淋(さび)しさが残る▼
Seibu was at its zenith when it opened its Yurakucho store. On Christmas day, the shutters of this iconic establishment came down for good.
The store teemed with shoppers on its last day. It was reminiscent of many a big sale event in its heyday. But, like a candle that burns brightly but burns out too soon, there was an atmosphere of sad finality.
在其登峰造极时开业的有乐町西武,昨天圣诞夜倒闭了。白天的人山人海让人依稀想起往年的促销。但是,不管如何热闹,也不再有明天。即将燃尽的蜡烛,火焰越是摇曳,越显凄凉。
その昔、デパートは押しも押されもせぬ祝祭的空間だった。〈遠足の列大丸の中とおる〉と俳人の田川飛旅子(ひりょし)は戦後に詠んだ。見学コースだったのだろう。昭和30年代ごろまでは修学旅行の観光に組み込まれてもいた▼
Decades ago, a trip to a department store was like stepping into a special, festive space. Hiryoshi Tagawa (1914-1999) penned this haiku shortly after World War II: "Youngsters on a school excursion/ File through Daimaru (department store)." This department store was probably a popular destination for students on school excursions. It was included in itineraries for such outings for about 10 years after 1955.
当年,商场是无可争辩的喜庆空间。俳句诗人田川飞旅子在战后吟咏道:“远足一队人,穿行大丸中。”是参观路线吧。直到昭和30年代,还被纳入修学旅行的游览之列。
そんな憧れの時代は遠くなり、包装紙のご威光もいつしか薄れた。「冬の時代」も今年はいっそう寒く、愛知の松坂屋岡崎店や、京都の四条河原町阪急などが相次いで終止符を打った▼
Those days are now long gone. People are no longer awed by items gift-wrapped in the signature wrapping papers of famous department stores. The chilly economy has been especially severe for department stores this year. Some have folded, including the Matsuzakaya store in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, and the Hankyu department store in Kyoto's Shijo-Kawaramachi district.
那种憧憬的时代远去了,包装纸不知何时也威风大减。“隆冬时代”今年更冷,爱知的松坂屋冈崎店、京都的四条河原町阪急等相继划上了句号。
往年のデパートには、晴れがましさと、ちょっと背伸びした幸せが詰まっていた。大人には宝石箱、子どもにはおもちゃ箱といったところか。名残をとどめるのは福袋ぐらいと皮肉る人もいる。再生への知恵を、どうかしぼってほしい。
The department stores of yore filled shoppers with the sort of festive spirit and happiness derived from going a little beyond their means. The stores were like a jewelry box for grownups or a toy chest for youngsters.
Cynics say department stores today retain only the vestiges of their past glamour, in the "fukubukuro" lucky grab bags they sell over the New Year's holidays. But I, for one, hope the nation's remaining department stores will find a way to reinvent themselves for new generations./color]
往年的商场,充满了隆重和略微逞强的幸福。对大人来说像珠宝盒,对小孩来说像玩具盒。也有人挖苦说,流风馀韵唯在彩袋。但愿设法起死回生。 |
