out of thin air = (apparently) from nowhere（显然）无中生有
The magician produced a rabbit out of thin air.
魔术师变出来一只兔子。

something in the air = rumor/suspicion that something is about to happen谣言，怀疑某事即将发生
I have a feeling that he’s going to leave us-there is something in the air.
我有一种感觉，他将要离开我们-是有这么一种传闻。
