◆apology
●an apology for = poor example/sample of<口>滥竽充数，勉强代用的东西
★The animal is bald and mangy; it’s an apology for a dog.

◆appear
●appear for = represent in court辩护律师出庭；为•••出庭
★He is the barrister who will appear for the defence.

●apple-pie order = neat and tidy整整齐齐，井井有条
★This room must be in apple-pie order before the tour of inspection.

★He let down the whole group, but there always seems to be one rotten apple.
  他把整个小组都给砸了，但一只烂，烂一筐的事似乎总是有的。

●upset the apple-cart = spoil somebody’s plans破坏[打破]某人的计划（常指出乎意料之外地）
★He wanted to go away, but all leave has been cancelled. That’s upset his apple-cart.
  他想离家外出，但是所有的休假都已经取消了。那就把他的计划打乱了。
