●take up arms = become involved in a conflict拿起武器,武装起来
★The unions have threatened to take up arms against the government’s proposed wages policy.
工会威胁说要拿起武器反对政府提出的工资政策。
●twist somebody’s arm = put pressure on/persuade somebody to force him/her to do something<口>向某人施加压力,强迫某人(作某事)
★I didn’t really want to go out tonight but, since you’re going to pay for the drinks, you’ve twisted my arm.
